To renew your license (every even year) you must have at least 16 hours of continuing education. Eight hours must be code-related. The remaining eight hours may be non-code.
Licensees are required to attain 16 hours of continuing education by the time of renewal or by June 30, whichever is sooner. A minimum of eight hours are required to be on the National Electric Code. In addition, only eight hours are allowed to be pre-approved correspondence or interactive online courses. Licensees are required to remit the certificate of completion to the Commission office once an online class has been completed.

Do you report my hours to the South Dakota Electrical Commission?
No, the board has asked us not to send continuing education completion rosters.
Do you provide me with a certificate of completion when I finish the course?
Yes. Once you complete and pass the continuing education course online, you will be able to immediately print your certificate of completion.
Do offer any continuing education training that is not online or correspondence?
We only offer online and correspondence continuing education courses in South Dakota. We do not offer any classroom continuing education courses in South Dakota. We find that most students prefer to complete their courses on their computer, smartphone or tablet.
